Frequently Asked Questions
Genetics is the study of genes and their variation in living organisms. Think of our DNA as the blueprint by which our cells use to create proteins. It is these proteins that carry out the thousands of functions in our cells. Misspellings in our DNA (also called mutations or single nucleotide polymorphisms) instruct our cells to create proteins with misspellings. Depending on the mutation, this can dramatically affect how that protein functions. Some mutations have no effect on protein function, while some can make them enhanced or impaired.
Ex. A mutation can slow down how quickly someone breaks down adrenaline, a major stress neurotransmitter by 400%. This means the "fight or flight" response will be much more sensitive, which can affect stress, mood, sleep, and gut health.
Ex. A mutation can greatly reduce your ability to absorb Vitamin B12 through the gut. This means a B12 deficiency is near certain without supplementation, which has harmful effects on numerous cellular processes.
Personalized medicine is when and individual’s genetic data (genome) is used to guide decisions made in regard to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. This can be anything from the type of medication, the dosage of the medication, and the overall response to a medication.
Precision medicine is an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person. This approach will allow doctors and researchers to predict more accurately which treatment and prevention strategies for a particular disease will work in which groups of people.
Holistic Genetic Health Optimization Dr. Panzner's personal definition of our service. It combines the philosophies of both personalized and precision medicine, with a strong focus on addressing mutated cellular pathways to restore cellular health. Healthy cells means healthy tissues which is the foundation for creating a truly healthy human.
Dr. Panzner believes his approach is unique in that not only does he view things from a genetics perspective, but his advanced education in mastering the philosophy of how cells not only behave on their own but react to outside substances allows him to intimately understand converging cellular pathways so they can be repaired.
While he is glad he made a transition away from a traditional Ph.D. career path, Dr. Panzner is forever grateful for the mechanistic zoomed-in mindset he has regarding science that his Ph.D. training gave him.
No, we work with clients globally. DNA kits can be shipped to most countries throughout the world, but clients from anywhere in the world can provide genetic data for us to do our analysis and coaching programs.
DNA kits can NOT be shipped to the following countries due to customs regulations:
Afghanistan, Albania, Antarctica, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burundi, Chile, Crimea Region of Ukraine, Cuba, Eritrea, India, Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Mali, Myanmar, North Korea, Macedonia, Russia, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.
Every biological process is conducted ultimately by our cells. Considering that any gene is capable of being mutated (a single gene is often mutated in thousands of locations), all health issues are affected by genetics. So the question to ask isn’t IF genetics contributing, it’s HOW MUCH are they contributing? Your genetics may not solely be causing your health issues, but they can absolutely be pushing your cells over the edge in conjunction with poor lifestyle choices (which are also affected by genetics).
I have spent over a decade mastering the art of not only understanding cell biology, but also how vitamins, supplements, drugs, and lifestyle affect cell biology; and ultimately your health and disease status.
